Ylioppilaskunnan laulajat (The YL Male Choir) conducted by Pasi Hyökki have commissioned a new piece The Holocene Extinction that will get it’s world premiere at the choir’s 140th Anniversary Concert on Easter Saturday at Helsinki Music Centre. There will be a concert pre-talk (in Finnish) at 5 PM in the cafeteria of the Music Centre.More information in Finnish can be found here and tickets can be found here.
My piano solo piece Epitaph will be performed by Ville Hautakangas at the home concert of Kaisankallio in Kankaanpää. More info coming soon!
Groove will be performed by flutist Marianna Schürmann and accordionist Neža Torkar at CO|:N:|ECT. The concert will take place in Kunsthalle Erfurt. Tickets at the door for 15 euros. A link to the Facebook event can be found here.
The Conferment Jubilee of the University of Helsinki is opened on 20 March 2023 in an event in which the new honorary doctors are also announced. In the opening event my new 20 minute multilingual conferment cantata Science Frictions, composed to a new text by Cia Rinne, will get its world premiere by counter tenor soloist David Hackston, The Academic Choral Society (Akateeminen laulu, AL) and Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra (Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat, YS) conducted Aku Sorensen.

Helsinki Academic Male Choir KYL (“Kauppakorkeakoulun Ylioppilaskunnan Laulajat”), the male choir of the Student Union of Aalto University School of Business, is going to perform my piece At Teasdale’s conducted by Visa Yrjölä at a concert together with the male choir Psaldo.
In memory of my former professor and friend Jouni Kaipainen I wrote a new piece Epitaph for solo piano, commissioned and premiered by Ville Hautakangas, now performed for the first time in Helsinki at the Steinwat Gallery.
The copyright organisation Teosto ry and Music X Media together with other organisations of the music field, arrange a election panel where we discuss the music field and art. The music field is hoping for an increase in the culture budget, to 1% and that social security will be improved for all artists. Along side Laura Moisio, I will be representing the point of view of composers and music makers. At the event there will be parliamentary candidates Pia Viitanen from the Social Democratic Party, Sofia Vikman from Kokoomus (Natinal Coalation Party), Aleksi Sandroos from the Centre Party, Jaakko Mustakallio from the Green party, Lassi Kaleva from the True Finns Party and Mia Joki from the Christian Democratic Party. Moderator for the panel is Juha Ahonen.
Vickan & Väinö is a bilingual (Swedish and Finnish) fairytale opera for children to the libretto and original story of Marina Motaleff. On stage Hedvig Paulig (Vickan), Ville Salonen (Väinö), Markus Nieminen (Engel/Löw) and Janne Valkeajoki (accordion). Commissioned and produced by Opera BOX and performed at 5 PM and 7 PM at the Oulu Music Festival.
Very excited about making my Musica Nova debut with my choral piece Angor performed by the fantastic EMO ensemble and Pasi Hyökki at Helsinki Rock Church.
My string orchestra piece Fretus, dedicated to the oceans of the world, gets its Finnish Premiere and a second performance by Lohja City Orchestra conducted by their fantastic artistic director and conductor Jukka Untamala, this time at Art Factory Porvoo. Very honoured to share the stage with the legendary pianist Olli Mustonen, who will be performing the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto. Tickets can be found here.
