Program note
The Latin word “nisus” means effort, pressure and strain. With this string trio I try to describe in music, what I think anxiety sounds like. A heavy pressure on you chest which paralyzes you, and your evasive thoughts of all kinds that sometimes lead to shouts of despair. With mental illness just as with other illnesses, you can’t imagine what it is like unless you have experienced it. And even if you have – every person has their own very personal experience. This piece is dedicated to every person suffering of mental illness.
Nisus was composed for Uusinta Ensemble and premiered at the contemporary music festival Time of Music 2019 in Viitasaari.
