The Pacius Prize of the University of Helsinki may be awarded to an individual or community that has, in a significant way, advanced the musical life of the University. The prize highlights both the long historical tradition of creative musical art at the University of Helsinki and its continued vitality as an integral part of the university community. The nomination for the Pacius Prize is made by the board of the University of Helsinki Music Society (HYMS).
HYMS has decided to propose that the 2025 Pacius Prize be awarded to composer Cecilia Damström for her remarkable achievements as one of the leading Finnish modernists in the field of contemporary music. In her output, Damström has demonstrated extraordinary creativity and mastery—qualities that have been admired in numerous concerts both in Finland and abroad. Damström has also studied musicology at the University of Helsinki and composed the conferment cantata Science Frictions in 2023. Through this work, she contributed in an impressive and forward-looking way to renewing this musical tradition.
Decision made in accordance with the proposal.
